The polymers obtained from natural renewable resources or biopolymers are positioning in the market and, nowadays, they represent a real alternative to traditional polymers obtained from oil. Among all biopolymers, poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is biobased and biodegradable thermoplastic that has gained increased interest in the industry. This article describes the life cycle of the PLA from their production, their processing at industrial level, until its disintegration in composting conditions as a sustainable end-life option to dispose PLA-based products
