Abstract

Mary Martín Iglesias (1927-1983) was a Spanish artist who arrived in Mexico as a girl in the context of the Republican exile of 1939 following the Civil War. Her Mexican education and upbringing as well as her parents’ ideological legacy determined her work, giving rise to a social component that allowed her to join the Taller de Gráfica Popular [Popular Print Studio]. Furthermore, her involvement in the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana helped to disseminate her work within the Mexican art world, in which she gained recognition although she subsequently fell into oblivion after her death.
