Abstract

The COVID-19 crisis, as we know, has led to the closure of most of the world’s museums. In this context, some of them, such as the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC) at UCH, have been able to convert not only the negative consequences of the pandemic, but also other problems derived from the social explosion in Chile (which began in October 2019, and continues its aftermath to this day) into an opportunity to further expand their museum concept towards the online format. This has been done in such a way that this new vertex is based on previous online museum work, and involves a profuse reflection on the importance of new technologies in the creation and dissemination of knowledge via digital platform in the context of cognitive capitalism. Museums such as the MAC are a clear example of how to approach the era of the internet and the web 2.0 from the field of culture, the arts and the museum, and project the work of this type of institution to the new digital citizenship in an inflexive, playful and creative way without falling into the society of the spectacle.
