Resumen

The development of new strategies within environmental education is beginning to be directed towards the accessibility of the natural environment for a diverse public. However, and specifically in the case of its geological values, direct contact with its characteristics and morphologies still presents great technical and academic difficulties. This work shows an example of the challenges for the universal accessibility to the Gea based on the observations made in La Pedriza del Manzanares (Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, Madrid) as an area recognized for its geological, recreational, outreach and landscaping relevance. Through a qualitative methodology, the elements and services available at La Pedriza will be evaluated: sources of information, types of transport and access, Visitor Center, access to buildings and the environment, and the accessibility of a geological itinerary called Forms of La Pedriza. Accessibility to this natural environment is deficient, especially with regard to direct interaction with the natural environment. This raises the discussion about the responsibility of the administration in its duty to connect nature with a diverse public, or the need to incorporate virtualization strategies and new fieldtrip concepts that contribute to the full experience in protected natural spaces.
