Abstract

The third volume of Victorina Durán’s memoirs, entitled Así es, is a vindication of non-heteronormative gender identities in Spain during the 20th century. This woman, set designer, artist, art critic, teacher, and playwright defended in her writing the naturalness of feeling attracted to other women, standing up to the patriarchal criticisms, which has historically oppressed and punished those who do not follow the rules. Firstly, this work aims to contextualize the moment in which Durán finished writing this volume, and, secondly, to analyze lesbian identity(ies) contained in Así es.
