Zusammenfassung

His article is a continuation of the one published in the volume 31 of Paremia and completes our study of phraseologisms and proverbs related to human stupidity. In this case we first analyze the regions and cities whose inhabitants became a paradigm of stupidity (especially the Boeotians, and also the inhabitants of the small town Leibethra, located at the foot of Olympus, and those of the very few known towns Keskos in Asia Minor and Arbelas in Sicily, the latter considered extremely innocent and easy to deceive people). Second we deal with the animals that represent stupidity, most of which have continued to be representatives of foolishness in our cultural tradition (the donkey, of course, and also the sheep and the ox, and likewise the pig, the prototype of ignorance, and the birds which represent thoughtlessness and unconsciousness).
