Resumen

Jean Dubois and Françoise Dubois-Charlier's “syntactic schemas” provide a sound basis for the conception of contemporary electronic dictionaries. In order to confirm this idea, we compared and found interesting possible mappings between the generic classes (“Classes génériques”), from Dubois & Dubois-Charlier and the semantic classifications into key ideas (“Ideas clave”) of a dictionary of idioms which paved the way to the Institut Cervantes’ online “refranero multilingüe” and its search engine. Furthermore, we show how the University of Granada's EcoLexicon project, grounded on the Frame Based Theory, reinforces J. Dubois' hypothesis of a “strong matching between syntactic forms and meaning”. In today’s media environment, the notion of word is to be expanded to resolve ambiguities, to make figurative meanings explicit and provide useful information for collocations, idioms, neologims, proverbs and a large range of other linguistic facts. Alphabetic classifications are no longer effective for search engines that require immediate and diverse accesses. Tribute is paid here to the authors of Les verbes français (LVF) for their pioneering work in the field of semantics and their approach to grammar/syntax.
