Zusammenfassung
The recent labour reform approved in Spain in December 2021 is bearing fruit. It is achieving the aim of reinforcing job stability and reducing temporary employment. However, important pending issues remain. The Spanish labour market still exhibits a high incidence of relatively unprotected part time jobs in relation with the EU. The wage gap vis-à-vis Europe is also significant. This article analyses the evolution of the distribution of wages and profits in Spain, highlighting the persistence of job precariousness. In the current context of the inflation crisis and slowdown in economic activity, salary devaluation is not the appropriate recipe, neither from a social justice perspective nor for economic efficiency. An income pact that achieves a balanced distribution of the social and economic costs of Putin's war will avoid starting an inflation spiral and an economic recession.
