For years, many people have risked their lives to reach Europe searching of better living conditions. The serious migration crisis experienced in 2015 that affected the European Union showed the limitations of Frontex when it comes to controlling and managing the external borders together with the Member States, sometimes violating the human rights of the immigrants who arrived. Through Regulation 2016/1624, the European Border and Coast Guard was created, which was not a new legal entity, but rather tried to give continuity to Frontex operations. This new European Guard introduced important advances especially in the area of human rights, and also when trying to give a better response to the management of the migration crisis that Europe was experiencing.
