Abstract

Spain Physical Geography at 2º bachillerato is explicitly present in Geographysubject, as one of the visibly hardest thematic blocks of its curriculum for students. Atlearning difficulties, it is frequent nowadays turning to any ICT (Information andCommunication Technologies) that motivates and makes students activeconstruction of knowledge more effective. In order to consolidate the PhysicalGeography contents, it is proposed, in this ICT context, the use of open GIS(Geographical Information System). Its characteristics and tradition of usage inteaching are exposed, infrequently in most of countries and above all in Spain, whereother technological resources stand out, and only a few of them have similar ideafrom GIS. The paper ends with a relation of free layers to use in GIS, relating how touse them in each case in order to move all the interest contents, with whichconsolidate students learning
