Abstract

The geological heritage of the Cuenca province is included in the Spanish Inventory of Sites of Geological Interest and in the Catalog of Geological and Geomorphological Elements of Special Protection of Castilla-La Mancha. The Provincial Council of Cuenca, aware of its value and the potential that geoheritage has for its public use, has published 12 self-guided geo-routes for its network of hiking trails (GR, long distance, PR, small route and SL, local trails) that interpreted this geoheritage. The geo-routes are thematic and have a total of 84 stops, of which, there are 46 stops in elements of the Quaternary, 18 of the Neogene, 11 of the Cretaceous, 4 of the Jurassic, 3 of the Triassic, 1 of the Ordovician and 1 of the Paleogene according to the Chronostratigraphic Periods. The leaflets are articulated in a brief geological introduction of the trail, avoiding technical language and a series of stops where the interpretation of the geological elements is developed with the support of maps, texts, photographs and diagrams.
