Abstract

This is a review of the book by the researcher Javier Lorente that tries to analyze the division of the left-right ideological axis in Europe among young people during the last thirty years. The objective is to understand how young people relate to this division by asking ourselves the following questions: Are the young people of the 21st century different from the adults and young people of the past in their ideological positioning? Why is it that young people are different? Do these differences have consequences when choosing the party to vote for? To answer these and other questions, a comparative analysis of the main countries of Western Europe is made, showing a history of ideological convergences and divergences over time. The main conclusion of this research is that young people are ideologically different from adults because they belong to different political generations. The ideological changes that occur in our societies can be explained, to a large extent, by the context in which individuals learn politically and shape their political orientations, which ultimately ends up creating different voting patterns.
