Abstract

Cities define themselves and communicate, speak directly to people who live there or just passing, throughposters from their streets. In this study we will analyzethe linguistic landscape of Cuenca, the capital’s smallest province Castilla-La Mancha. The study of theirposters, tourist and cultural information —aboutmuseums, monuments or exhibitions—, signs of itsstores, direct in its streets and other urban elementspresent in the old town will allow us to know what theimage that projects the city itself to its visitors, whatinformation provides and how to present this information. Through the study of these materials, we can seeif our hypotheses are true. We consider posters willbe written in Spanish, in most cases, they usually willinclude references, direct or indirect, to Casas Colgadas, the most popular tourist attraction of the city, and in the posters will appear also sometimes Don Quixote, as Cuenca is a town of La Mancha. Therefore, our analysis seeks to study the image that this city offersitself to society through their posters.
