La Participación en los espacios naturales protegidos de la Comunidad de Madrid

Abstract

The public participation in the natural protected areas of Madrid Region is under the protection of the current law and covers, basically, to ways: the information and statement periods for the planning, and the Participation Collegiate Bodies for the management. Both participation levels seem to be insufficient due to the social response being produced after the protected areas´ declaration. The great majority of people, which live in and use the natural areas, are left out of the real areamanagement, and just a little part of the response is channelled by nature conservancy organizations, heritage conservancy organizations, etc. The aim of this paper is to present an analysis of the current situation of public participation in Madrid Region´s protected natural areas, as well as to propose a series of steps to go forwards to a comprehensive participation both the management processes and the planning ones.
