Abstract

The need to include authentic works of fiction in the foreign language teaching process is obvious, but the selection of texts of the appropriate level at the elementary and intermediate stages of Spanish teaching remains a challenge. Since this phenomenon, in our opinion, has not been sufficiently explored, the aim of this article is to present the results of the study on the benefits of using of unabridged short stories that correspond to the intermediate level (B1 PCIC) as a means of stimulating communication skills in the Spanish class. The theoretical framework connects the concept of the notion of “clip culture” with the field of teaching SFL through the use of short stories in the classroom. After a qualitative analysis, a selection of 36 stories is designed, and these stories are then subjected to a quantitative analysis based on the content of the PCIC level B1 in order to demonstrate the concordance of the chosen stories with the Curricular Plan. The reader will be provided with the results of the experiment carried out with several groups of young students from Russia. Based on the results of the observations of the teachers, the final exams, the evaluative surveys and the productions of the students of the experimental group, comparing them with those of the control group, the conclusion will be that the selected stories stimulate communication in the classroom and motivate students to continue studying Spanish, giving them confidence in their knowledge of the language.
