Abstract

This research focuses on the study of Spanish public radio and television from a business perspective. The work presented is a critical analysis of the business evolution of the State Public Radio and Television in Spain (RTVE), with a historical perspective, covering, fundamentally, the period between 1980 and 2020. A period that begins with the approval of the Statute of Radio and Television, at the dawn of democracy, and which concludes after the culmination of the unprecedented first Public Contest for the election of the members of the Board of Directors and the presidency of the RTVE Corporation, in March 2021. This research has a markedly interdisciplinary character that addresses, among many other aspects, the changes derived from its successive transformation, first as an administrative entity, then as a business group and, finally, a sa public corporation. Throughout this work, special attention will be paid to aspects directly related to business management, finances, and Good Corporate Governance. Consequently, and as an unprecedented contribution, it will offer a panoramic view of RTVE over the last forty years, as a public multimedia news company.
