Resum

The following research conducts a study about the different works developed by Benjamín Fernández in production design and art direction in film. The different disciplines that participate in art direction will be shown: work methodology, organization, equipment, etc., in essence, all the different processes that are carried out by the Art Department. It is explained why the work of the aforementioned department is essential to understand a film as an artistic manifestation, therefore, its importance in the creation of audiovisual productions is revealed. Through the analysis of Benjamín Fernández’s work methodology in his films from script readings, design process, art proposal, location scouting, budget, setting design and construction to screen materialization, that is, from the conceptual design to the film reality (from the sketch to the frame) it is shown that it entails one the most interesting and fundamental parts in filmmaking. Thanks to the work and effort of a great professional crew, led by, in this case, Benjamín Fernández, a meticulous staging is achieved. The design together with the lighting, the music and the atmosphere get the audience completely involved in a world full of hope where reality and fiction come together in the shape of film.
