Una nota sobre la compatibilidad entre interrogativas y negación

Resumen

Se ha observado repetidamente que la negación bloquea la interpretación recta de las oraciones interrogativas, que o bien obtienen una lectura retórica (¿Quién no ha leído «El Quijote»?) o bien reciben una lectura ligada-D del interrogativo (¿Cuál no ha leído «El Quijote»?). Este trabajo estudia casos en que la negación no bloquea la lectura interrogativa sin necesidad de lectura ligada-D. Se argumenta que son casos de eventos negativos en los que la negación corresponde a una posición estructuralmente baja. Argumentamos que la explicación de este patrón de datos radica en que los focos pasan por la proyección de polaridad alta, por lo que la negación compite con un interrogativo desplazado, salvo que este tenga carácter de tópico. Cuando la negación ocupa una posición más baja en la estructura, no surge esa incompatibilidad dado que los focos no pasan por ella y, por tanto, no compiten con la negación por la misma posición
