African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious disease that affects both domestic and wiId pigs, with h igh mortality rates. The causative agent, the ASF virus, can be transmitted through direct and indirect contact as well as by Omithodoros ticks. The disease is endemic in Africa, where it persists in a wildlife cycle. Currently, the virus has spread to five continents, constituting one of the major threats to the pig sector. Since there is no effective treatment or commercially available vaccine worldwide, biosecurity is crucial in minimizing virus entry and spread. lmplementing measures such as decontaminating transport vehicles, destroying carcasses, or fencing extensive farms may help minimize the disease"s impact. Therefore, biosecurity is currently our main tool in dealing with ASF.
