Abstract

Metalepsis, like many other categories and concepts articulated in that initial period of narratology marked by structuralist thought, is a narrative phenomenon that was identified in the field of literature and its definition was built on semiotic foundations that take verbal language as its main constituent. This circumstance implies a fundamental problem when the narratological discipline is extended to other media in which we also find codes linked to the image in the construction of the story. The purpose of this research is to analyze how the concept of metalepsis experiences this transition, that happens when the field of application of the narratological concept changes from literature to comics. The transmedial analysis of a particular phenomenon, such as metalepsis, will lead us to question narratological principles of a more general order. Metalepsis, as a transgression between the level ot the narration and the level of the narrated that is usually associated with the narrator's speech action, refers to the theoretical principles taken from Linguistics that established the origin of the theory of narrative discourse —enunciation, utterance and its enunciator— which do not find a specific parallel in media other than literature. For this reason it is necessary to question the possibility of constructing transmedial narratological models based on the theory of verbal enunciation because it does not find easy accommodation in multimodal media such as cinema, theater and comics...
