Resum

The development of this thesis is based on the hypothesis that the opening of new fronts of colonization of the Brazilian territory, more specifically in Amazonia, and the demographic and economic development of the same, has only been possible thanks to the concurrence of air transport, which has made it possible to "jump" the traditional territorial continuity that characterizes colonization in fronts, particularly important in the case of Brazil. To demonstrate the hypothesis put forward, the paper proposes the analysis of air transport in Brazil, assessing, in relation to the role of other transport systems (land and river), some of its repercussions on the occupation and structuring of the territory in the country, and more specifically in the Brazilian Amazon region. The final objective is to understand how the Brazilian territorial system is organized as a whole, what has been the role of air transport given the insufficient presence of surface communications. The work will make it possible to answer questions such as: to what extent are Amazonian cities, and with them their hinterlands, connected among themselves and with other cities in the country? When did they become part of Brazil's general air transport system and what is the logic of territorial occupation? Does the presence of airports and aerodromes in the Amazon, and what does this mean in terms of accessibility, connectivity, intensity of relations, centrality, represent an opportunity or a threat to the territory?..
