Cáncer y estilo represivo de afrontamiento

Resumen

Los sujetos con estilo represivo de afrontamiento (ERA), o estilo represivo de respuesta, quedan definidos por baja ansiedad y alta deseabilidad social -ambas evaluadas por cuestionarios-, pero presentan altos niveles de activación fisiológica y conductual, medidos mediante registros fisiológicos y observacionales. El ERA suele encontrarse frecuentemente en sujetos con cáncer. En este estudio se compara un grupo de sujetos con cáncer frente a un grupo control, en algunas variables relacionadas con un potencial ERA. Se obtuvo que los pacientes con cáncer presentan un patrón típico de potencial ERA. Puntúan más que el grupo control en las subescalas de: Deseabilidad Social, Control -como opuesto a Neuroticismo-, Control de la Conducta en una situación de revisión médica, Racionalización, Antiemocionalidad y Apoyo Social. Puntúan más bajo en: Sinceridad -como opuesta a Deseabilidad Social-, Ansiedad como rasgo, y Expresión de Ira. Estos resultados apoyan la hipótesis de una alta incidencia del ERA entre los pacientes con cáncer, y muestran la necesidad de indagar en los modos de afrontamiento que los sujetos usan frente a su enfermedad, en orden a mejorar su calidad de vida.
