This document analyses the peace missions, which were developed in Latin America from the 90s, and the role that Spain played in them. Three major missions are described: the peace processes in Central America (1989-2003), the mission in Haiti (2004-2017) and in Colombia (2016-2017). It highlights the influence that Spain gained at the regional level, and how the work in these operations helped it overcome internal problems, derived from civil confidence in the Armed Forces. Likewise, Madrid in its external policy was able to break with the dictatorial image and announce its new mission as the supporter of democratic development, social justice and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
