Abstract

Objective: Study the influence of different types of universal adhesives, the strategy used and their pH through mechanical and morphological tests and microleakage analysis. Current adhesive systems allow to improve clinical procedures due to their own components and their mechanism of action, reducing the operative time of application, handling of use and side effects on the patient. Universal or multi-mode adhesives are essentially one-step adhesives, combinig an acidic primer and an adhesive ina single solution; And as their name suggests, they can be applied as a self-etching, total or selective etching technique. The depth of demineralization in the dentin is linked to the potential of the acidic monomer. Universal adhesives can be considered material-dependent, since their various components and potential for hygrogen ions could modify their mechanical properties and adhesive interface ; being necessary an individual analysis of each universal adhesive.
