Resum
The purpose of this paper is to review the specialized literature in order to systematise –and to categorise– some of the attributable causes to the divergence in the development processes in two regions, Latin America and East Asia, based on two representative experiences of each region (Brazil and South Korea) in which strategies with developmentalist aspirations were implemented, each with its very own levels of concretion and achievement. To this end, the role that both transnational corporations and states have historically played in the development strategies of both countries will be studied, and an attempt will be made to determine to what extent the participation of transnational corporations, conditioning or strengthening their alliance with the State, was decisive in the successful implementation of development strategies in both countries.
