Resumen
There is a growing interest in understanding psychopathy from the five-factor model (FFM) or Big Five. Meta-analyses of the empirical literature on relationships between the MCF and different measures of psychopathy, empirical relationships between the NEO PI-R and major theoretical perspectives on psychopathy, content analyses of the PCL-R, and ratings of experts on psychopathy based on the NEO PI-R consistently support that 12 facets of the NEO PI-R are associated with psychopathy. Based on these associations, in this study a psychopathy scale derived from the NEO PI-R was developed, and normative, and convergent, discriminant validity data were obtained for this scale with volunteers from the general Spanish population (n = 682). The internal consistency coefficients were good (α = 0.88-0.89). Convergent correlations with NEO-PI-R measures of antisocial personality disorder were also excellent (r = 0.88-0.96) and higher than discriminant correlations with NEO-PI-R measures of other personality disorders. Men scored higher on the psychopathy scale than women (d = 0.51), which justified the development of separate norms for men and women.
