Abstract
As the rest of Chile’s population, President Salvador Allende’s access to office shocked the Spanish community in the Latinamerican country. This article describes and analyzes how its members behaved during a period of deep political, economic and social changes in Chile. All this framed by the unnatural political and commercial alliance between Madrid and Santiago, a strategic bilateral relation in which Spanish expatriates played an important role led by the Spanish authorities, thus successfully avoiding the risks associated to the tumultuous Chilean political process.
