Drift chambers in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector are piled modular structures joined together by structural adhesive. These structures are used for the detection and tracking of high energy particles –particularly muons– in the global CMS detector in operation at the European Council for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva. The structures must be assembled on a surface with flatness tolerance lower than 0.1 mm during the whole manufacturing process. During this process the load applied to the table increases from 0 to 90 kN. A cost-effective precision table has been designed, modeled, built and finally used for the manufacturing of 70 drift chambers at CIEMAT in Madrid (Spain). The deformation of the table under the increasing load of the chambers is studied and different configurations for the position and number of legs are analyzed and compared in order to optimize the design.
