Abstract
In this article, new technology based diagnostic methods are described. Immunological test are used for characterizing the host response to pathogenic bacteria or their products. Molecular biology is a relatively new science applied to the identification of bacteria at their nucleic acid level. This technical precision permits the study of possible transmission of periodontal diseases from infected individuals to healthy susceptible ones, and the pathway that bacteria use for this purpose.
