Estudio de la morbimortalidad en fracturas de húmero proximal

Abstract

Proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) are the third most common frailty fractures, surpassed only by hip and distal radius fractures. A large percentage of PHFs occur in elderly patients who usually develop other associated comorbidities (in addition to osteoporosis), which make them a special risk group. Many papers have been published on the classification, treatment and functional results of PHFs. However, only a few studies have focused on the effect of PHFs on patients’ state of health and, more specifically, how prior comorbidities can affect the complications and the mortality rate. In contrast, these aspects have been widely studied in other type of frailty fractures, such as hip fractures, in which the treatment has been standardized for decades. However, the management of PHFs continues to be the focus of debate.
