Influencia de la discapacidad sobre la conducción en pacientes con esclerosis múltiple

Resumo

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory, chronic and degenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS), of unknown etiology and of autoimmune pathogenesis. It preferably affects young people between 20-40 years old, especially women in a ratio of 3: 1. The prevalence in Spain is 80-125 cases per 100,000 inhabitants by gender and age group. In the last decade, an increase in the prevalence and incidence of this disease has been observed in Europe, in the Mediterranean basin and presumably throughout the world. It is the most frequent chronic neurological disease in young adults in Europe and North America; and the most frequent cause of neurological disability in young and middle-aged people in developed countries after traffic accidents. The etiopathogenic origin of MS is not completely known, it is thought to be of a multifactorial origin, with the participation and interaction of different environmental factors (virus, levels of vitamin D, tobacco consumption, dietary excess of salt, obesity, vaccinations, trauma, stress, nutritional habits, intestinal microbiota and toxic consumption) in a genetically predisposed patient (strong association with HLA DRB1 * 1501), which would cause abroad spectrum of alterations in the immune response in the same subject, which in turn would be the cause of the inflammation present in MS lesions...
