Abstract

The construction of correct final disposal sites, as well as the implementation of adequate waste management, implies a considerable investment of money that many government administrations are not willing to afford, especially in a country like Ecuador, where open dumps still exist, and where the lack of recovery or separation measures at the source predominates in the country's municipalities.This doctoral thesis analyses the integrated management of solid waste in the municipalities of Manabí and Santo Domingo in Ecuador from an economic, social, and environmental perspective, which seeks to address a current problem that has been little examined in the country and to provide tools for the administrations and society in general in the management of resources that will bring them closer to sustainable development...
