Résumé

Keratoconus is a disorder, usually bilateral and asymmetrical, that occurs with a progressive thinning of the thickness of the central and/or paracentral corneal stroma and a modification of the curvature that produces, to a greater or lesser extent, an irregular astigmatism, an increase in high-order aberrations (HOA), and corneal protrusion or ectasia that causes a decrease in visual quality. The adaptation of rigid contact lenses (CL RGP) is usually the first treatment for recovering visual function, and Cross-linking (CXL) is the treatment applied mainly to stabilize the cornea and to slow keratoconus’ progress, managing to strengthen the corneal stroma. Keratoplasty or total or partial transplantation of the corneal centre is indicated when the cornea presents a high degree of deterioration and loss of transparency. In any case, it is handled as a solution with few guarantees of success, since the resulting superficial corneal irregularity provides poor visual quality in most cases...
