Zusammenfassung
This thesis project explores medievalist stories and novels from the Portuguese and Castilian literary traditions published from the 1960s to the present. The objectives of the project are to identify representative titles that draw inspiration from the Middle Ages, analyze their genre and thematic characteristics, and propose a "poetics of estrangement" with six defining features. The main chapters of the project focus on studying thematic and rhetorical elements that establish conventions for contemporary literary Medievalism. One chapter, "The Medieval Mask and its disfiguring artifices," examines grotesque representations that contribute to the construction of the Middle Ages' imaginary, particularly through an aesthetic of carnivalization. The project aims to contextualize and analyze the selected medievalist fiction, ultimately providing insights and understanding of the practice of literary Medievalism today.
