An experiment is reported in which the effect of the precomisural septal lesion on the development of interresponses pauses is studied. Rats were trained during 18 sessions in lever pressing under fixed ratio 20 (FR 20) schedule. Two equivalent groups were then formed. Six rats were submitted the bilateral electrocoagulation of the septal area and 6 rats were sham operated controls. After surgery the rats receive consecutively 7, 3 and 5 sessions under a RF 20, Extinction and FR 20 schedules. A lower number of interresponses pauses was observed in the septal lesioned animals. It is suggested that this result may be due to the interference of the septal lesion on the reactive inhibition development.
