Objetive: functional unilateral posterior crossbite (FUPCB) is a very common maloclussion in children, so it is interesesting to determine whether this kind of alteration can cause variations in mandibular´s condile and ramal heigths. Material and methods: the sample consisted in an experimental group of 59 patients (mean age 9,67±2,34 years) and a control group of 69 patients (mean age 9,98±1,90 years). Condilar and ramal heights were evaluated by using Habet´s method on panoramic radiographs. These data were statistically analized to investigate if there were statistically significant differences between the patients of both groups and between the two sides of the patients of each group. Results: statistically significant differences in mandibular´s condile and ramal heigths between the two study groups neither between the two sides of both groups were not found. Conclusions: according to the measures performed on panoramic radiographs, patients with FUPCB are no more asymmetrical than those of the control group.
