Résumé

Introduction: class III treatment in young patients is one of the greatest challenges in orthodontics due to the relative frequency of relapse and the uncertainty of obtaining stable results over time and after growth is completed. The aim of this study is to dentally determine long-term stability of class III treatment after 10 years of retention, and also compare the changes with a class I control group. Material and method: this retrospective longitudinal study analyzed 162 cast models from 28 patients (class III), and 26 patients (class I) at three different times: start of treatment (T0), end of treatment (T1), and after 10 years of retention (T2). An ANOVA was performed to determine significant evolution of each variable over time, and T tests to compare differences between the study group and the control group. Results: differences between class III and class I at the beginning of treatment disappear after treatment. However, there are some differences between groups after 10 years of retention. Conclusions: orthopedic class III treatment is dentally stable in the long-term, after growth is completed and 10 years of retention.
