Abstract

Sport can make important contributions to understanding and collaboration between nations and States. The fact that sport has become a powerful instrument in the field of international relations, capable of uniting people with different origins, education, religious feelings or economic situation and fostering intercultural dialogue, has promoted the phenomenon of sports diplomacy that has been actively developing for years, often making cooperation and peaceful relations between nations possible. In this way, we must relate sport to the concept of soft power of States that allows them to defend their interests or their ability to achieve results through persuasion and not through coercion or violence. In this sense, it is necessary to highlight the capacity of sport to reinforce the "cultural security of a country"
