Abstract

Isla del Fraile is located in the Hornillo Bay (Águilas), an area of great heritage wealth. Declared an Asset ofCultural Interest, it is the only site in the Region of Murcia that extends this degree of protection both on land andunderwater. Since 2020, thanks to the support of the Águilas Town Council, an interdisciplinary archaeologicalproject has been underway to discover its unique history. Afer three excavation campaigns, we present the frstresults, which have allowed the identifcation of four phases of occupation. Tese range from the Roman-Republicanperiod to the beginning of the 20th century, including an Islamic necropolis dating from around the 12th-13thcenturies. However, the most outstanding period is the 4th-5th centuries AD, when several warehouses and basinslinked to the production and trade of salted fsh were built on the islet
