Abstract
Regional odontodysplasia is a rare tooth development ano- maly affecting enamel, dentin, pulp and dental follicule. This pathology often affectes teeth in a quadrant and it is more commonly found in the maxilary arch. The affected teeth are hypoplastic, typically discolored yellow or yellowish brown, and compared to unaffected, the affected teeth are smaller in size with more severe pitting and grooving. Radiographically the teeth affected have been described to have a “ghost like apperance”. Enamel and dentin are thinner and show poor mineralisation. The demarcation between ena- mel and dentin is poorly defined, with large pulp chambers and incomplete root formation. One case of regional odontodysplasia in a child 3 years old is presented. The patient came to the dentist complaint of pain and swelling in his mouth. Intraoral examination showed hypoplasic teeth and several absccess. Since the first sympton of this pathology is usually pulp necrosis and infections wi- thout deep caries, the treatment for these disease is often the extraction.
