Abstract

María de Santo Domingo (¿1486?-1524) is part of the movement of the Castilian living saints. Although she exercised religious leadership during her lifetime and some of her visions were published, she ended her life in silence. Unlike other visionaries of her times, such as the Franciscans María de Toledo and Juana de la Cruz or the Hieronymite María de Ajofrín, we do not have any hagiography of her. In this article we make a journey through the different versions of her life, which show us that the memory of María de Santo Domingo has been changing strikingly after her death and that she has become a living version of the archive fever that has dominated History.
