Abstract

The power of images or the image of power have in the media have a narrative or explanatory function of the context of information, and also in general can attract readers more than written news. Even the intended coherent or harmonic relation between these two languages, the photographic image that illustrates and the writing that describes and interprets, can lead to distort it when placing a photograph in the way of a decoy on information with which it does not have any relation to the print and intention of that the text does not achieve. This article argues the way the European leadership exerted by German Chancellor Ángela Merkel demonstrates through photographs the embodiment of this task in a face, with a protagonist linked to headlines and which replace the absence of a visible head of the Union. On the basis of agenda-setting, the maximum is: Without a face there is no news.
