Abstract

A stroke is a neurological emergency. It is widely known that quick action in the diagnosis and specific treatment of patients with stroke is of vital importance to their functional prognosis. Early recognition of patients with stroke by extrahospital emergency services and in emergency departments is essential as a starting point for rapid management of these patients. There are different protocols, including the stroke code, that are used to facilitate early action. This review updates the diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations to be performed urgently in order to provide adequate care for patients with stroke in emergency departments.
