Ecological conscience has been a minority position in Spanish poetry up to the present day. Among the possible reasons for this is the absence of a Spanish tradition of nature writing. One of the main tasks of Spanish ecocriticism must be to improve the knowledge and visibility of those precursory writings which proposed a new relationship between humans and the natural environment. Aníbal Núñez (1944-1987) was one of the first poetic voices to warn about the devastating consequences of human actions on nature. From a marginal position in the period of Francoist developmentalism (60s-70s), Núñez pointed out in his books problems such as ecosystem degradation, human domination and the ambivalent relation between poetic language and the natural world. This article will address these main axes in three fundamental works of the poet’s critical view: Naturaleza no recuperable, Definición de savia and Clave de los tres reinos.
