Abstract
The well-known and media proposal of a four-day week, or more generally the political approach of reducing the maximum legal working day, is an idea that must be integrated into all the regulatory complexity of dynamic transformation of working time. From this premise, I note that with current legislation it is now perfectly viable to articulate four-day weeks in their different formulations. This study evaluates these policy proposals and the public incentive programs that accompany them, with a detailed analysis of the arguments for and against four-day weeks. The evaluative analysis is conclusive in the necessary connection of this time distribution with productivity and business viability, the relevant role of collective bargaining in its possible implementation and the lack of convenience of direct legal intervention to achieve this objective.
