Abstract
There are a great number of white lesions than can occur in the oral mucosa. These lesions can undergo a malignant transformation and become an oral cancer. They include oral leukoplakia, verrucous proliferative leukoplakia, the smoker's palate, oral submucosal fibrosis, actinic cheilitis, diskeratosis congenita and oral lichen planus. These clinical entities are reviewed and updated by analyzing the ethiology, epidemiology, clinical aspects, pathology, diagnosis, management and potential for malignant transformation.
