Resumen

The Hedonic Pricing Model (HPM) has been used in theliterature to identify the value of the price determinants of the tourist accommodation industry. This method is commonly applied to pricing strategies that reflect the value of the internal attributes of the tourist accommodation. However, external attributes concerning sustainability have been overlooked. Given that sustainability is a key factor in the development of the tourism sector, the purpose of this chapter is to review the literature on the role of sustainability in the pricing strategies of tourist accommodation. In particular, we identify the internal and external factors included in HPM literature and suggest that more sustainability-related external factors should be considered in such models. The theoretical framework also addresses the relationship between the concept of sustainability and destination competitiveness and guides tourism policy and HPM.
