Abstract

Gathering the principal recommendations and the most successful experiences about gender approach in cooperation projects, the Intermediate Evaluation of the project Poverty Reduction in the Andes through Production, Transformation and Marketing of Farming Products in Puno (Peru) has taken place in the year 2003. This project tries to integrate the traditional aspects of engineering together with a strong social component highlighting the role played by rural women. In its run-time 2002-2004, the development project tries to establish technological mechanisms that optimise farming products with comparative advantage that can be produced in the small farms of the Andean ecosystem. The participation in the Intermediate Evaluation of the project, which included an exhaustive field visit, supposed a in situ information withdrawal, a participative analysis of the first year results and it led to a series of recommendations for the next years. As well as the assessment work, the project incorporates an innovative feature into the programmed development activities. The aim is to integrate the rural women from Puno in the project, specifically incorporating strategies that allow to promote their role and to generate development alternatives that take into account their own aspirations and needs.
