One of the aims in dental treatment of children with special needs is the maintenance of the greater number of teeth without making premature extractions. In most of these children, treatment can only be carried out under general anesthesia. Methods and materials. A retrospective and transverse study of 206 patients after undergoing dental treatment under general anesthesia was undertaken to research the reasons for program inclusion. The effectiveness and security of the treatment depending on the type of dental treatment and the anesthetic complications was evaluated. Results. Perinatal hypoxia was the inclusion factor for 29% of the handicap. The most frequent treatment was conservative dentistry, both in temporary and permanent teeth. The most frequent complication was vomiting which proved significant in the youngest (p<0.05). Conclusion. Dental treatment under general anesthesia is safe and very effective when indicated. Nevertheless, it is not risk-free.
