Abstract

his article analyses family attitudes toward gender equality, considering three types of categories (adaptive, blocking and co-educative). With thisaim, a group of 83 fathers and92 mothers completed a questionnaire to analyze their attitudes about co-education González-Piñal, Rodriguez and García (2013). Some sociodemographic variables were considered in the analysis age, gender, family structure, educational qualifications and nationality. Results show that most of the parents held co-educational positive attitudes, although mothers were more egalitarian than fathers. A significative number of fathers did not answer the questions with a co-educational regard. It is necessary, therefore, that both fathers and mothers participate in educational programs aimed to destroy the patriarchy in education, encouraging as well an equal treatment in the family environment, that allows both boys and girls to build identities without gender stereotypes.
